Women's Health and Clinical Trials:
From hormones to heart disease, we've heard frequent reports of new women's
health research studies with promising results this year. But most women do
not know why participating in clinical trials is important. We asked Phyllis
Greenberger, President of the Society for Women's Health Research in Washington
DC to comment on this.
"Women need to take charge of their health and
improve the health of future generations through medical research. And women
are needed for research studies, because we know that men and women are different...and it is only through women's participation that we will we be able to find
the answers."
So how does a woman find out how to participate
in a clinical trial?
"There are several ways women can get information
about clinical trials and research, but one of the one's that we would recommend
is going to womancando.com. And that's
a site that talks about what you need to know in terms of going into research,
what questions you need to ask, how you protect yourself from problems, and
how you can find research studies that you might want to participate in".
Many women who have participated in clinical trials say it was the best thing
they ever did for their health.
