Yasmin
Q: I have had PMDD since I was 24. Now they
have a drug out called Yasmin. What do you know about this drug?
-B.L.
Dr. Donnica: I am sorry to hear that you suffer from PMDD. I hope
that the information on our website was helpful to you. To get a complete list
of articles discussing PMDD on DrDonnica.com, click here.
Yasmin is a birth control pill that may help reduce symptoms of PMS, particularly bloating, fluid retention, and irritability. If you
suffer from true PMDD, I doubt that this would provide a resolution of your
symptoms, but it may lessen them. You didn't say if you are currently on any
therapy (psychologic or pharmacologic). The medicine you may want to consider/evaluate/ask
your doctor about is Sarafem, which has helped many women with PMDD. If your
doctor agrees, and you want oral contraception, you can take Sarafem and Yasmin
concurrently. Click here for more information on Sarafem. For more
